The Swedish army marched through Djäkneboda Pass twice during the Finnish War of 1808-1809: first on its way to meet the Russians on the battlefield at Umeå and again as it retreated. Even though the pass would have made an ideal battleground, the army chose to press on. Ultimately, the battle for Umeå would take place at Sävar.
