This monument serves as a reminder of the field hospital erected in Alvik during the 1808-1809 war. When retreating Finnish troops crossed over from the Finnish to the Swedish side of what was then the Swedish empire, many were seriously ill. The following winter would claim many lives, a fact to which these graves bear witness.
