After the Swedish army’s retreat from Sävar in 1809, it returned to the ships waiting at Ratan. The Russians attacked here on 20 August. The Swedish vessels in the harbour were able to assist the troops on the ground by firing on the shore with their large cannons. As a result, much of the village was destroyed by the time the battle ended.
