The Swedish army held a fortified position here during the late spring and summer of 1809. On the other side of the river, northern Sweden was occupied by Russian troops. On one occasion an attempt was made to launch an attack, the Swedes surging forward to Hörnefors. But it failed and they were forced to return to their position across the river.
