On 5 July 1809 Russian forces attacked the Swedish-Finnish army encamped at Hörnefors in response to the Swedes’ aborted attack. The Russian forces were superior, but the Swedish rearguard held its position at the bridge, allowing the rest of the army to retreat to the Öre River.
